

VPro Live Engineering Academy
The VPro Live Engineering Academy is an immersive, 7-week course designed to equip students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for a career in live sound production.
Taught by industry professionals using leading brands, the program emphasizes hands-on learning, allowing students to engage directly with the latest sound technology and equipment.
Throughout the course, students will explore a comprehensive curriculum that covers everything from sound system setup and mixing to client management, all culminating in a final exam that includes a live event simulation.

The course cost is $700 + HST ($791.00). Please note $395.50 Non-refundable deposit is required to register, with the balance due in full by session (week) 4.

WEEK 1
Introduction to Live Sound
ā
This unit covers the fundamental purposes and objectives of sound amplification in live event settings. Students will learn when and how to use amplification effectively. The unit includes a demonstration of all the equipment that will be used throughout the program.

WEEK 4
Stage Setup and Teardown
ā
Students will learn fast, efficient, and safe workflows for setting up stages for bands, DJs, and live events. The unit covers effective cable management, equipment placement, and microphone techniques for various instruments and voices.

WEEK 7
āOverview of a Full Day Live Event/Exam Prep
ā
Students will demonstrate their understanding by setting up a full band live sound system with a band present. They will receive feedback from the course instructor and live musicians. The unit includes a full stage setup and final exam review.

WEEK 2
Sources, Signal Flow, and Types of Sound Systems
ā
Students will explore the connections between speakers, amplifiers, microphones, and complete sound systems. They will learn how signals travel between these components and interact with each other. The unit also reviews point source, line array, and column array systems, using industry-leading brands such as Allen & Heath, Midas, RCF, Shure, and Sennheiser.

WEEK 5
Setting Up a Console and Basic Processing

An in-depth exploration of industry-standard audio consoles, focusing on the Allen & Heath SQ series and Midas M series consoles. Students will understand the workflow differences between analog and digital consoles and learn tips and tricks for EQ and dynamics processing, including compressors, gates, and effects.

FINAL EXAM

The final exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions covering the entire program. Students will also complete a full stage and band setup, followed by a complete teardown and packing away of all equipment.

WEEK 3
Acoustics, Environment, and Mixing Live Events

This unit discusses how different venues and materials affect sound and how to optimize audio quality in various environments. Tips and tricks for making poor-sounding spaces sound good are provided, along with the differences between indoor and outdoor events.

WEEK 6
Working with Artists, Bands, Performers, and Client Management
ā
This unit dives into effective interaction and relationship-building with clients and artists before, during, and after events. It covers effective communication, understanding artists' monitoring requirements, and reading riders and stage plots for efficient live event management.

The final exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions covering the entire program. Students will also complete a full stage and band setup, followed by a complete teardown and packing away of all equipment.

Program Enrolment Policies
1. Program Enrolment Cost: The total enrolment cost is $700.00 CAD, plus HST ($791.00).

2. Deposit Requirement: A non-refundable deposit of $395.50 (including HST) is required to secure your enrolment in the program.

3. Final Payment: The final payment instalment of $395.50 (including HST) is due by the fourth class of each semester session.āā

4. Makeup Sessions: Each unit includes one designated makeup session date, scheduled at the instructor's discretion based on necessity, for students unable to attend a regular session.

5. Class Duration and Location: Each class or unit is three (3) hours and will be held in person at 30 Rivermede Rd, Unit #1, Concord, ON.

6. Program Completion Certificate: Upon satisfactory completion of the program, each student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion, affirming their successful participation and fulfillment of the program requirements.
